Sheffield's 'Beggars Belief' are a loud, lively and laudable group to fully restore your faith in the holy grail of English folk and ceilidh. Their songs are crammed full of comedy, tragedy, unrequited love and lots of alcohol. You can dance a reel or strip the willow to tunes which may be tradtional, self-penned, classic rock or cheesy disco, and it doesn't end there. Their musical influences range from British folk, through Cajun, Balkan gypsy, heavy metal and Saturday Night Fever. Someone recently described them as 'techno-ceilidh'.Over the years they have found themselves virtually mobbed in Denaby Main, given the rock-star treatment in Sutton Coldfield and encored to death in Eckington, all the while fine-tuning their fresh, infectious sound in the lounge of a semi in a South Yorkshire village. Massively in demand, the 'Beggars' have played venues from car parks to castles, with clients ranging from the Treasury and the National Trust to the Salvation Army! When asked about their music Beggars Belief say, "We're a groove folk'n'roll band who want to make people dance..."
